Men And Women Diet Differently

by fitnessmantra on May 5, 2009

racetrackAbout a month back, the New England Journal Of Medicine came out with a rather “obvious” paper which suggested that irrespective of the ratio of carbs, proteins or fats one consumed, a low calorie diet was the single-best way to lose weight. Newsweek reported on the results and then did an interesting piece on the difference between the way a man and a woman diet.

Understanding these differences might be key in helping one lose weight:

Figuring out which dieting tricks and tactics boost the kind of willpower you need to turn down those fries, Oreos or piña coladas is far more complicated than just counting calories. And, it turns out, many of the weight-loss strategies that inspire women won’t work for men—and vice versa. [Newsweek]

Men beat out the women in the very first test described which basically examines the test subjects’ brains to see how successful that person is in eliminating the thoughts of food whiel focusing on somethign else. Turns out, that men could easily beat the women in “tuning out” thoughts of food while women (as measured by PET scan machines) still craved their favorite foods.

Read the rest of the tests to see why men and women are different in more ways than we can imagine, dieting included!
