100th post: Fitness Mantra is accepted into 9rules!

December

9rules leaf member“Welcome to 9rules”.

For a second I just stared at the subject of the email without comprehension. And then it hit me. Fitness Mantra had just hit a double landmark: 100 posts and as a bonus holiday gift: Fitness Mantra is accepted into the 9rules Network!

What is 9rules?

For those not familiar, simply put, 9rules is a network of quality blogs from around the world that are organised into various groups called communities. Some examples are “Art“, Food” and “Science“. Thus, a visit to the 9rules site will always assure you of great content on a variety of topics and from a variety of viewpoints. Look for “Fitness Mantra” under “Food” (it might take a couple of days for them to add me into the community), but I am requesting them to create a community for health and fitness addicts like you and me (surely we deserve a space of our own!) and I am sure there are several great fitness blogs out there that 9rules readers would greatly benefit from.

According to the 9rules “About” page, any blog can request to be included in the network, but they look for those with good content that are updated regularly. I am extremely grateful to the 9rules team for recognising my efforts to make fitness a way of life for all my readers. I now have the added responsibility of living up to the high standards set by the 9rules community and with your support and encouragement, I am confident I can rise to the occasion.

New Here?

cake 100Fitness Mantra is a blog focussed squarely on health, fitness and nutrition and most of my posts revolve around making fitness an everyday choice. I started the blog in May of this year and coincidentally this is the 100th post! Just a couple of days back I wrote a “Reviews and Predictions” post as part of Problogger’s Group Writing Project and for newcomers that is an easy way to find out what I have been thinking and writing about these last 7 months and what I plan to do next year.

As always your comments and feedback are what keeps me motivated to be my best and I can be reached at “fitnessmantra at gmail dot com”.

Welcome, and I hope you discover something new here everyday.

Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for a Fabulous 2007!

Gallup Survey: America is getting heavier but exercising less

01

December

According to a WebMD article, a Gallup survey of about 1000 individuals has only confirmed what has become increasingly obvious: More Americans are getting heavier but fewer are making exercise a regular part of their lives.

With nearly 6 in 10 either overweight or obese,

Nearly 60% said they would “like to lose weight.” But only 28% said “yes” when asked if they were currently “seriously trying to lose weight.”

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity on five or more days of the week. The article also mentions a few examples of moderate-intensity physical activities like examples of moderate-intensity physical activities like : Walking at a moderate or brisk pace of 3 to 4.5 miles per hour on a level surface and Hiking.

Read the entire article and get started at bucking the trend: we can easily conquer obesity with a healthful diet and regular exercise.

Be healthy.
